AVIGNON, France - Recently, a mammoth rape trial in France moved into it’s next phase just this past Monday as prosecutors began to lay out the verdicts and punishments deemed necessary for dozens of men accused or raping Gisele Pelicot while she was drugged and rendered unconscious by her husband. During the harrowing proceedings that have stretched over nearly three months, she has become an inspiration for campaigners’ fighting against sexual violence in and outside of France.
Dominique Pelicot is the name of Gisele Pelicot’s now former 71-year-old ex-husband that was married to the sexually abused woman for 50 years. She believed he was a loving, caring husband, and unfortunately, the report of his outreach of sexual abused on his wife is true.

According to the panel of judges, the maximum penalty for aggravated years he may face is 20 years. “Twenty years between the four walls of a prison cell—it’s both a lot and not enough,” says Gisele Pelicot.
The court is expected to deliver its verdicts by Dec. 20.
