Final Project - Visual Journalism

This past week in Texarkana, TX, Liberty Eylau School District hosted a couple of Christmas events for the community. On Dec 5., there was a Christmas Tree Lighting, which was held in the L.E. high school media center.

Before the Christmas Tree lighting, LEISD provided many family-friendly activities at the high school, and not to mention, both of the Clauses' made an appearance, ready to hear a ton of Christmas lists and take pictures with the kids. Not only was there Santa Claus and his jolly wife, but there was a large, friendly Gingerbread man walking around ready for his debut!

A few days before this event, Texarkana's annual Christmas Parade took place in downtown Texarkana on Monday, Dec. 2 at 7p.m. This year's theme for the parade was 'Christmas Through The Decades.' More specifically, it was Christmas in the 1920s. The theme was inspired by the celebration of Texarkana College's founding year, which was 1927

This year's parade had multiple organizations participate, and there were three 2024 Texarkana Christmas Parade winners for each category. For the marching band category, Arkansas High School Marching Band placed in third, Pleasant Grove High School Cheer placed in second, and Pleasant Grove High School Marching Band placed in first.

Commercial winners:
  • 1st: Abernathy
  • 2nd: Retreat Healthcare Services
  • 3rd: Christian Care Center

Non-Commercial winners:
  • 1st: St. James Day School
  • 2nd: Cornerstone Baptist Church
  • 3rd: Mount Grove Baptist Church Youth Ministry

To top off the various holiday events, all Texarkana middle schools and high schools have been preparing Christmas music with their concert bands for one last performance of the semester. LEISD recently had a Christmas concert with both, the middle and high school, playing Christmas classics in front of family and friends.
